J.K. Simmons may have won the Oscar as the hard-ass drumming instructor allergic to compliments in 2014's highly acclaimed Whiplash, but it was actor Nate Lang who writer-director/drummer Damien Chazelle hired to help Miles Teller pull off a convincing solo. Lang, a member of the New York band The Howlin' Souls, plays Teller's rival Carl Tanner in the film, but behind the scenes, he was Teller's go to man. Even though Miles had been playing the instrument since the age of 15, jazz drumming proved to be exceedingly difficult and far more technical than the rock music he was used to performing. Aside from whipping Miles into shape for the breakout role, Nate, an Upright Citizen's Brigade alum has gotten our heart beating in Destination Wedding (2015), playing the hard-partying Ivan. And while his young acting career will hopefully present more opportunities for flesh in the future, for now we can appreciate watching a shirtless Nate with his back turned, showing some tippy-top butt cleavage as he engages in some kind of self service. Now that's what we call a solo!
