Review

Pole to Pole (1992) is an eight-part BBC documentary travel series hosted by Michael Palin of Monty Python fame. Just as the title of the mini-series somewhat implies, Palin travels from the North Pole to the South Pole, taking the most direct route possible, mainly by boat, while making stops across Europe, the Soviet Union, and Africa. Along the way, Palin interacts and interviews a variety of people—from a Turkish masseur to some well-off Russians. Though the sights are beautiful and the people are interesting, Michael Palin steals the show with his wit, humor, and a brief look at his rump. Mr. Man would love to go pole to pole with Palin!
