According to Shia (and my following investigation - gotta fact check these things), the name Shia was given to him by his mother, Shayna Saide, and it means praise God or thank God. LaBeouf, on the other hand, is his father Jeffery Craig LaBeouf's last name - and it means beef. His name means thank god for beef.
My first thought (before googling his parents) was oh my god, he has duped us all - Shia Lebeouf is his stage name! - but it really, really is his name, it would seem. I'm not the only one who thought it either; there are many a conspiracy theory about the actor.
In any case, it's very fitting. Shia is a beefcake in the best possible way, and we are very thankful for him.
