Spartacus (2004)

Hollywood really knows how to run something in the ground, which is the case regarding the history of the famous Thracian gladiator Spartacus. Just when you thought you knew everything about the rebel rouser, the 2004 Emmy-nominated television movie creatively title Spartacus follows the titular slave (Goran Višnjić) as he is sentenced to live out the rest of his adult life working in the deserts and gold mines of Egypt. But the slave-turned gladiator gets a reprieve when Lentulus (Ian McNeice), the pleasantly plump owner of Roman gladiator school purchases him. While at the school, Spartacus devises a grandiose plan to take down the Roman empire, along with fellow slaves Draba (Henry Simmons) and David (James Frain). In the meantime, the well-intentioned warrior falls in love with Varinia (Rhone Mitra) while drawing the hatred and violence of his powerful enemy Marcus Crassus (Angus Macfadyen), who is determined to stop Spartacus and his fellow troublemakers. James Frain is determined to turn us on, especially when he shucks his undergarments and gives us a look at his amazing rump. Though we don’t get to see his good parts, Goran Višnjić takes time to show off his beefcake body during sword training. Mr. Man would love to do some sword fighting with Goran!
