Staff Picks: 70s Sci-Fi

Our Staff Picks column is a new addition that takes you back to a time when video stores reigned supreme and the "Staff Picks" section was the place to find out what films were worthy of one's time. Of course, our version has a decidedly nude angle, as we suss out which films from a certain genre with great nudity. This week: 1970s sci-fi!

So what's so specifically sexy about 70s sci-fi? Um...it was the 1970s! The guys were hot and the shorts were short. Feathered hair, tans, and tight clothing - the 70s were so sexy when it came to men onscreen. Sci-fi got really creative when it came to costuming these men. While these movies might not have the most explicit nudity, they sure feel homoerotic.

Here are our staff picks for 1970s Sci-Fi:

Invasion of the Body Snatchers

This 70s remake of the horror cult classic gets much more explicit than the original. This horror story is the original body-switching alien story in which a young man starts to notice his friends act differently. He suspects something is wrong, but he doesn't know what - he has no idea that it is an alien invasion taking over his friends' bodies.

A young Jeff Goldblum shows off his shirtless body when he has a towel wrapped around his waist. Stan Ritchie is someone that we can stan when we see his can as gets out of a mud bath.

THX 1138

George Lucas' 1971 sci-fi thriller showed the world what this now legendary director could do. A man lives in an underground city policed by robots that are all being programmed by a central computer. Citizens have to take drugs ala Brave New World to dull their senses and their free wills.

Staff Picks: 70s Sci-Fi

Robert Duvall plays THX 1138 - no names even - cuts down his drug dosages with his mate LUH 3417. Suddenly, they are FILLED with feelings which led to rolling around naked on the floor together. Duvall's derriere is out of this world!

Zardoz

This 1974 film is WILD. Is it "good"? Absolutely not. it's one of those so-bad-it's-good movies where Sean Connery plays a man who lives in a world where men and women are separated. Women are the dominant species, there is a god named Zardoz, and Sean Connery wears a loincloth. Do you really need me to say more?

Staff Picks: 70s Sci-Fi

I've written much more in-depth about Zardoz in the past, but I'm telling y'all: it's a fun watch. Sean Connery shirtless only makes it even more fun.

Rollerball

The year is 2018...okay, so we already lived through that year, but in 1975 that was tHe FuTuRe. This dystopian future has corporations running the world and the government totally doing away with free will. There are government mandated games of Rollerball, a violent game that pits citizens against each other. It's like The Hunger Games, but hotter. Who is our main heartthrob? James Caan!

Staff Picks: 70s Sci-Fi

We didn't see balls in Rollerball, but we got teased with James Caan, John Beck, and Bob Minor taking a shower together. Oh, and the chest hair. It's simply not the 1970s without chest hair.

Prey

Prey is more often thought of as a horror film, but it has some sci-fi elements, so I want to count it in here. I also want to count it because there is dick and balls. So sue me! I like what I like. An alien spaceship lands near two lesbian lovers. The alien is disguised as a human man and he appears to be hurt, so the women take him in to help him.

However, he IS an alien and he has nefarious plans. He also has a cock and he uses it. We get to see his backsack, his ass, and his shaft in a sex scene that starts hot and gets...well, it gets how you would expect a sex scene between an alien and a human to get. Regardless, Barry Stokes plays the alien man who will have you stroking yourself.

The Man Who Fell to Earth

Finally, let's talk about David Bowie's foray into acting with this trippy 70s film that puts Ziggy Stardust on celluloid as an alien. This freaky deaky alien lives in the United States where he feels very out-of-place. The metaphor of alienation is very strong here as he explores humanity by getting naked and sexy with human women. That's when we see David's dick:

David's not the only one! Rip Torn shows his cock and Bernie Casey does the same. David Bowie is an alien, but these guys are definitely all human in their hot nude scenes.
