Whitney (2015)

You guys asked for a Whitney Houston biopic and now you got it, thanks to the always-dependable storytellers at the Lifetime channel. The unauthorized Whitney (2015) focuses on the first five years of the phenomenal singer’s (Yaya DaCosta) caustic relationship with New Edition bad boy Bobby Brown (Arlen Escarpeta). Hey, you guys wanted it! The couple met in 1989, married in 1992 and divorced in 2007. In that eighteen-year span, Whitney rode the top of the music charts, experienced the highs and lows of fame in a cocaine-fueled, domestic abuse marred existence. Though the films stops short of addressing her tragic end in 2012, it doesn’t hesitate to give us multiple scenes of shirtless beauty from Arlen Escarpeta. Somehow his chiseled physique absorbs the inherent sadness of Whitney’s life, and we’re fine with that.
