British GQ just featured Yahya Abdul-Mateen in their Heroes issue where they talk to living hero Yahya amongst others such as Olly Alexander, Jamie Dornan, Riz Ahmed, Tom Daley, Dan Levy, and Matt Haig. So Yahya is in very good company.
He told GQ that he never really anticipated his acting career because he was formerly a city planner in San Francisco. Now he is an Emmy winner who has taken on iconic roles from Dr. Manhattan to the literal Candyman. Where did he come from?!
He was a native of New Orleans who always liked to entertain, but he was drawn to architecture. After working in his early 20s in city planning, he realized that he wanted to have a fun career. He wanted to be an actor! After his father passed away, he decided to really go for it because life is short. Thank goodness he realized that!
Yahya has made his dad proud for sure. He is a bold and beautiful actor who takes on major roles with ease. It's not easy to revamp Candyman, for example, but he did it! Or what about his Dr. Manhattan? He was totally naked and painted blue. That's a dedication to your craft right there...and dedication to not giving us blue balls.
When can we see Yahya next? Well, he is going to take on a major role in Matrix 4 as Morpheus. I'll take whatever pill Yahya wants to give me if he's playing Morpheus.
