Indeed, everyone, you read that correctly: There will be a Splash remake, and it will star Channing Tatumalongside Jillian Bell. It gets (almost) better, too - the remake will be helmed by the original film's director and producer Ron Howard and Brian Grazer.
The first Splash is indeed responsible for a good portion of Tom Hank's fame, which we are also grateful for. He played the role of Allen, a human who was rescued from drowning by a mermaid named Madison when he was a little boy. When the duo is older, Madison seeks out Allen and they fall in love.
You can probably guess how the gender swap will go - Tatum will play the merman who saves Jillian's character and later goes to find her. No word yet if Tom or Daryl Hannah will make a cameo, but that would be epic.
The immediate implications of all this is quite obvious, though: We're about to see A LOT more shirtless Channing, and hey - if Daryl could show her butt in the original, Channing can show his now.
