The one and only Cillian Murphy is stepping into Tommy Shelby's shoes again. Who's that? Why, it's only his character from the series Peaky Blinders. Netflix is making the film which is currently in production, so we only know a little bit about Cillian Murphy and the rest of the gang from Peaky Blinders, but here's what we know so far.
Cillian Murphy reprises his iconic role as Tommy Shelby. Steven Knight also returns and we know that because both of them were pictures in first look photos that the production released on Monday. The film is being made and distributed by Netflix and directed by Tom Harper.
It is all based on the successful six-season series, but not every single character is returning. We do not know the full cast list yet, but we do know that the cast is being rounded out by Rebecca Ferguson and one very special Irish guest.
That Irish guest actor? Barry Keoghan, of course! The Irish actors are everywhere at the moment - Cillian, Barry, Andrew Scott, and Paul Mescal - so it only makes sense to include at least one of those four hot boys in a new Peaky Blinders venture. I hope to see ALL of them make appearances, but I will happily settle for the wild and wonderful nudity of Barry Keoghan. He does go nude, right? Right?! Let's hope so!
Not much else is known of the film other than the fact that it is set around the time of World War II. Will the war play a part in the plot? We don't know anything about that yet! The production is purposefully quiet about what surprises we can expect to see from everyone's favorite dark and dingy series. The series had a video game which Cillian provided voiceover work for, but the fans want to go back to the world of Peaky Blinders once more.
Cillian Murphy said, “This is one for the fans.” If that's true then I am hopeful for nudity. After all, that is what the fans want. Give us what we want, Cillian!
Speaking of nudity, Cillian is no stranger to it either. He went nude in his early work like 28 Days Later when he was a scrawny lad.
He went nude in Peaky Blinders. He teased us with nudity in the epic film Oppenheimer which earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor. I always like to think that this scene helped elevate his status for the award.
As a proud Irishman, Cillian Murphy loves working on films related to Irish causes. His upcoming project is called Small Things Like These which will be released in November. Small Things Like These focuses on the Irish Catholic Church's homes for unwed mothers which were workhouses that carried out a great deal of horrific abuses. That doesn't sound particularly sexy, but it does sound good. I trust Cillian Murphy and his acting choices, so I trust that the film is good.
I trust his nude choices as well.
