Terror spreads by word of mouth in the anthology horror film Campfire Tales (1997). Four teenagers returning home from an epic concert find themselves stranded in the woods after a car accident puts an end to their fun. Determined to make the most of their situation, Cliff (Jay R. Ferguson), Lauren (Christine Taylor), Eric (Christopher Masterson), and Alex (Kim Murphy) gather around the titular location to tell ghost stories. The first tale follows honeymooning RVers, Rick and Valerie (Ron Livingston and Jennifer MacDonald), as their traveling adventures are interrupted by a stranger (Hawthorne James) with warnings involving dangerous creatures and the full moon. In the second bit, Amanda (Alex McKenna), on the eve of her twelfth birthday, is ditched by her babysitter and left alone, which she wisely reveals to her Internet buddy “Jessica” (Jonathan Fuller), who leaves the chat room for the dark spot under Amanda’s bed. The final story concerns Scott (Glenn Quinn), a broken down motorcyclist who finds himself at an isolated house interacting Heather (Meleva Barbula), a beautiful mute chick that communicates by using charades and a chalkboard. It’s all romance and giggles until he crosses paths with Heather’s sadistic father (Denny Arnold). In between all the creepy tales, Ron Livingston manages to show off his rump as he emerges from the RV to announce his sexual conquest. Now that’s a tail we’d love to spend time with around the campfire!
