Review

The themes of unrequited love and coming out in an un-accepting society are central to this made-for-TV British movie. Steve John Shepherd plays David, a working-class plasterer. David’s shares an inseparable bond with his best friend of fourteen years, forever-student Theo (John Simm). When Theo’s relationship with artist Hannah (Laura Fraser) begins to get serious, it’s particularly painful for David -- he is, and always has been, deeply in love with Theo, but can’t do anything about it because the people in his life, including his parents, are deeply homophobic. David sees an out in a drastic move: Go on a nationally televised talk show and tell the truth. That’s when things get really tough for him. You might find yourself concerned for the main character’s well-being throughout the film, but thankfully there are lots of distractions -- some well-placed post-coitus and post-shower booty shots make it all better.
