La Bamba (1987)

La Bamba (1987) documents a third of the day the music died. Lou Diamond Phillips plays Ritchie Valens, who perished with Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper when their plane went down in a snowstorm. He was only eighteen when he died young, lived fast, and left a good-looking corpse, so the movie focuses on his bad-boy biker brother, played by Esai Morales, and Valens's blonde Anglo girlfriend Danielle von Zernick. Joe Pantoliano shows up as the record producer who helped Valens top the pops before he bottomed out and burst in the burning wreckage of his prop plane. But along the way, La Bamba rocks hard. Phillips even treats us to a brief glimpse of his bubbly backside bambas, and -- don’t blink or you might miss it -- his other bambas, if you know what we mean.
