Of course, most everyone knows that Washington state native Layne Staley wasn’t an actor, he was the frontman for the metal band-turned grunge-purveyors Alice in Chains. Known for his tensed-throat vocals and bleak lyrics, Layne thrilled the flannel-wearing masses at arenas around the world with his dark sensibilities and ominous stage presence. The fact that he was backed by outstanding guitarist Jerry Cantrell more than likely had something to do with the band’s overall success. Unfortunately, the skinny Staley succumbed to the pressures of fame, stardom and his gnawing depression by dying of a drug overdose in 2002. But in brighter, healthier times, Layne showed off his slender body while jamming on stage in the 1992 romantic comedy Singles. Rest in peace, Layne.
