Shutter Island (2010)

Adapted from the Dennis Lehane novel of the same name, Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island (2010) is set in 1954 and follows Federal Marshal and World War II veteran Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his new partner, Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo). We first meet them on a ferry as they head to the titular, water-bound mental hospital that houses the criminally insane on an island in Boston Harbor. The detectives are tasked with the job of investigating the disappearance of Rachel Solando (Emily Mortimer), a patient serving time in the asylum for the murder of her three children. After questioning Dr. Cawley (Ben Kingsley), the head of the institution, about Rachel’s disappearance, Daniels and Aule begin to suspect that those in charge of the looney bin aren’t being totally honest. But Teddy's got a secret motive to take the gig. His wife (Michelle Williams) was killed in a fire set by a man named Andrew Laediss, who Teddy thinks is on the island. But when he starts getting migraines and having mysterious flashbacks, suddenly it becomes a race against time for Daniels to piece together the secrets of the hideous hospital/prison before he goes completely insane. You’ll be going completely sk-insane when you catch a look at DiCaprio and Ruffalo baring their wet, beefy torsos as they exit the shower wearing only their towels. Oh, the skin-sanity! The former teen dream who gives ladies the boot when they hit twenty-five shows he's still in incredible shape, even if he's not carrying as much bulk as The Hulk. Our thirteen-year-old crush and our crush from 13 Going on 30 (2004)! If only they'd shown us they're nuts in Shutter Island! We mean, their nuts. Don't we?
