Star 80 (1983)

Beauty is an element of all the most-wrenching tragedies, and no tragic tale of doomed beauty is more wrenching than Star 80 (1983). Directed by fleet-footed dramatist Bob Fosse and starring the young and incredibly promising Eric Roberts in a pitch-perfect portrayal of the archetypal "suitcase pimp," Star 80 mourns the sad fate of beatific blonde Dorothy Stratten. Dorothy, as recreated by long, flaxen-tressed Mariel Hemingway, was a former Playboy model, plaything to the rich and powerful and an eventual victim of a murder suicide perpetrated by her erotically entrepreneuring boyfriend. Moody, macabre and emotionally draining, Star 80 takes the audience on a disturbing ride into the reality of victim and victimizer alike.
