The Handmaiden (2016)

Not to be confused with the massively successful Hulu TV show, the Gorgeous Korean drama The Handmaiden (2016) made a splash with critics for its opulent sets, gorgeous costuming and fascinating plot. Oldboy (2003) writer and director Park Chan-Wook took British writer Sarah Waters' novel Fingersmith and switched the setting from Victorian England to Japan occupied Korea in the 1930's for this compelling period piece. That clever change led to the film taking home the BAFTA for "Best Film Not in the English Language" in 2018. In the film, viewers are transported to the 1930’s, where a scheming crook who goes by "Count" Fujiwara (Jung-Woo Ha) recruits a pickpocket named Sookhee (Kim Tae-ri) to become a handmaiden for one very specific rich family, then become besties with rich book dealer Uncle Kouzuki's (Cho Jin-woong) niece Lady Hideko (Kim Min-hee) so she can convince her to marry him. She'll agree that it's a great idea, the two will elope, then he'll take all the Lady's money and stick her in the loony bin. For her role in the scheme, Sookhee can get a cut of the score. It's a great idea, right up until Sookhee falls in love with Lady Hideko and the two start rubbing their lady bits together. But that's not the big twist. We won't spoil all the doublecrossing, but can assure you there is plenty. The sumptuous visuals are as compelling as the drama, but not, in our humble opinion, as compelling as the cute dudes! Jung-Woo Ha shows us his butt in a pair of scenes that will have you yelling wahoo! In the first one, he's lying on the rug in a dress shirt but without pants, ass in the air. Face down, ass up, that's the way he...looks for stuff, apparently. And in the second one, he's letting a woman tend to some scratches on his buns. We'll cream on those, err, rub some cream on those cheeks! Gotta hand it to that Handmaiden star, he's got a nice booty! Sure, it's a lesbian love story, but thanks to that fella you’ll be doing some mating with your hand while watching The Handmaiden!
