True, Jimmy Cliff is better known as a successful musician than a skintastic actor. The Jamaican ska, reggae and rocksteady artist captured the attention of mainstream audiences with his recordings of “Many Rivers to Cross,” “You Can Get It If You Really Want,” “Reggae Night” and “Hakuna Matata” from The Lion King (1994). Jimmy also found fans when he covered Johnny Nash’s “I Can See Clearly Now” and “Wild World” by Cat Stevens. In addition to offering up his smooth vocals, Cliff lent his 5”5’ frame to music videos. Check him out with Elvis Costello & The Attractions in Seven Day Weekend (1986) and with Bernard Lavilliers in Melody Tempo Harmony (1995), to name a couple. As an actor, Jimmy portrayed Wise Man in the action flick Rude Boy: The Jamaican Don (2003) and Ernest Reed in the Harold Ramis comedy Club Paradise (1986) starring Peter O’Toole and Robin Williams. Of course, we’re partial to Cliff’s part in the R-rated crime movie The Harder They Come (1972). As Ivanhoe “Ivan” Martin, Jimmy shows off his acting chops — as well as his fab flesh!
