Finally released on Netflix is the sexy Brazilian story Seashoreabout two young men coming of age and exploring their burgeoning sexuality together. A deceptively delicate film, it will make you question all sorts of things: Who is that lady Martin is bringing the papers to? Can you do anything at all in a beach town during the off season? And last (but certainly not least), what is happening in my pants?
Here are the basics: Two Brazilian students, Martin (Mateus Almada) and Tomaz (Maurcio Barcellos) used to be close friends, but have drifted apart over the years. When the two have to spend at impromptu weekend at Martin's beach house during the off season, they're forced to rekindle their friendship ... and then some.
Tomaz is gay, but doesn't quite know how to tell Martin. When the the truth comes out, Martin is accepting and open in a way that Tomaz never quite anticipated.
The weekend soon takes a turn for the sensual and experimental, and Martin explores corners of his sexuality he didn't even know existed.
While the sex scenes aren't explicit, they're definitely erotic and oh-so-subtle.The filmmakers predominately rely on you to read between the lines when it comes to the specifics, but that's what makes it so relevantwhen you're that young, anything can (and will) happen. It's a sexually charged movie in the sweet and sensual sort of way that turns you on without really showing you all that much.
