Staff Picks: Concert Films

Our Staff Picks column is a new addition that takes you back to a time when video stores reigned supreme and the "Staff Picks" section was the place to find out what films were worthy of one's time. Of course, our version has a decidedly nude angle, as we suss out which films from a certain genre with great nudity. This week: concert films!

So what IS a concert film? It is a film that essentially shows off a live performance from the attendee's perspective while the subject of the performance is showcased via performance, behind-the-scenes footage, and documentary insight into their life. Sometimes a concert film is just a taped concert, but the best ones are a combination of the three that I mentioned there. They also include stand-up comedians!

The earliest concert film is considered to be 1944's Adventures in Music, but 1959's Jazz on a Summer's Day, which comes from the Newport Jazz Festival, was much more notable. They rose to popularity in modern times with added interest in celebrities as well as concert tickets being so expensive that seeing a concert movie is analogous to being there. And now? There's nudity!

Justin Bieber: Never Say Never

While Taylor Swift has the highest-grossing concert film release of all time, Bieber's concert film is in second place. Bieber released one of the most successful concert films of the modern era with his documentary Never Say Never in 2011. There's no nudity in the film - just the sexy young Justin putting his dance moves on for the world to see.

One Direction: This is Us

In the 2013 concert documentary directed by Morgan Spurlock of all people, we got to know the barely legal boyband in an intimate way. While there is no nudity in this documentary, we did get to see Harry Styles shirtless for the very first time. Oh, how he's grown!

Madonna: Truth or Dare

Madonna's controversial Truth or Dare tour is well documented in this amazing black-and-white documentary that took us deep into the world of the blonde pop star. She surrounded herself with sexy men - many of whom were gay and from the ballroom scene in New York City - as her dancers and they had a good time in her hotel room.

At one point, one of her gorgeous dancers gets butt naked and plays with Madonna in bed! We see his buns and his penis when he stands up and puts it all away in a pair of tight jeans. That's not the behavior of someone who is Like a Virgin.

Trainwreck: Woodstock 99

While not technically considered a "concert film", I want to include Woodstock 99 because this documentary focused on the wild 1999 Woodstock event and features a bunch of concert footage. The Red Hot Chili Peppers stole the show with their set because bassist Flea played nude. He stroked his long-necked instrument sans clothes which was more than suggestive.

Flea's dick is music to our ears! The blue-haired boy definitely won't leave your balls blue.
