Our Staff Picks column is a new addition that takes you back to a time when video stores reigned supreme and the "Staff Picks" section was the place to find out what films were worthy of one's time. Of course, our version has a decidedly nude angle, as we suss out which films from a certain genre with great nudity. This week: South Asian movies!
South Asia refers to India, Indonesia, Cambodia, Nepal, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia, Burma, Brunei, and a few more depending on who you ask. It's a big, beautiful, vibrant region - and the men there are a testament to that. Nudity in films in that region seems hard to come by, but I'm here to tell you that it actually isn't. Here are my staff picks for South Asian cinema:
Cat Sticks
Ronny Sen directed this black-and-white film that takes a look at love and addiction. The film takes place over one rainy night in Kolkata (aka Calcutta) where a group of addicts is seeking crack to smoke to pass the night away. Their journeys to get drugs intersect and reveal a lot of fascinating feelings about how far people will go to score their next hit.
It's heartbreaking - and that heartbreak is certainly helped by the black-and-white cinematography - AND there is nudity. We see dick and balls when Tanmay Dhanania and Sounak Kundu are naked as they inject drugs into each other.
Loev
And now for something gay! Hooray! This Indian film from 2016 follows a friendship between two male friends who go on a road trip together. When it's just the two of them on the road, their feelings start to come out. Are they actually in love? Honey, yes! They explore these feelings which make things more complicated. Check out Dhruv Ganesh and Shiv Pandit as they travel together and make love.
Mushrooms
This 2013 Bengali drama follows a young man who has been working as a high-class architect in Dubai. He returns home to Kolkata where he finds that his brother seems to have lost his mind and is living in the forest. He assesses his own life while trying to help the lives of people around him! One thing to assess is Anubrata Basu who goes TOTALLY nude and shows his ass and uncut cock before he has sex. Check out his mushroom!
Lovefucked
It has an explicit title, but it is indeed a love story. This Indian romance by director Aadish Keluskar looks at the highs and lows of a relationship. Ludo
This PG-13 film by director Anurag Basu is a badass Bollywood flick that is filled with dark humor and high-octane action. The comedy follows four separate city dwellers in New Delhi whose lives all intersect when danger is afoot. For a PG-13 flick, we get a huge fat ass to savor. Saurabh Sharma shows his buns before he dives off of a balcony in a chase scene. His big ass has us needing more!
Kriya
This Indian-British coproduction is fascinating! This is a trippy horror flick about a British DJ who goes home with a hot Indian woman for a one-night stand. Not so fast. She tells him she actually needs him to help in a ritual for her dying father. That is when he learns that her family is actually cursed by a demon. Uh oh! Hookup culture sure has gotten dangerous, huh? At least there is a penis. Non-Indian actor Noble Luke shows us his cock in two separate scenes.
Kama Sutra - A Tale of Love
And now for one of the most famous Indian films! Kama Sutra is all about sex. This 90s flick showed off the hunkiness of Naveen Andrews whom we all knew and lusted over in the 90s. Naveen is SEXY in this film. The hot young Indian actor shows his ass and his strong abs and he left me gagging.
We also saw the rump on Ramon Tikaram! Both men had one bootylicious scene in this film that is filled with sex - and a lot of female nudity, to be honest - and we were obsessed with these hot Indian buns.
