Beanpole (2019) is a Russian film that won awards and praise when it debuted at Cannes and garnered attention for its 26-year-old director Kantemir Balagov. This period psychodrama takes place in Leningrad right after World War II has ended in 1945. The Soviet city is completely destroyed from years of warfare and the invasion of the allied forces.
