The Student (2016)

The 2016 Russian drama The Student explores one young buck’s struggle with the religious fanaticism thrust upon him by his Christian family. Veniamin Yuzhin (Pyotr Skvortsov) grew up understanding the Good Book as gospel. Adolescence makes Veniamin confront his beliefs in a more complex way, and as some of them start to unravel, so does he. All of this is exacerbated by Veniamin’s liberal Jewish science teacher, who of course asks her students to think outside of the box and explore new ideas.
