Told in segments, the artfully filmed Caravaggio (1986) follows the life and exploits of seventeenth century artist Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio (Dexter Fletcher). From his ruffian youth to his contemptuous adulthood, we see the controversial and intense painter makes his way through life, being nursed to health by a pedophile priest and finding lustful love with a homosexual street fighter Ranuccio (Sean Bean) while maintaining a relationship with Lena (Tilda Swinton). When a pregnant Lena is found dead, Ranuccio is arrested for the young girl’s murder. Caravaggio pulls some strings to get his lover freed from jail, leading to a tragic conclusion. There isn’t any male nudity in this art house film, but Bean is shirtless in multiple scenes, showing his slender and defined body as he poses for Fletcher in a loincloth. It’s not much, but it’s enough to help you flesh out your fantasies.
