Loosely based off of the Jules Verne novel Tribulations of a Chinaman in China, the adventure comedy Up to His Ears (1965) stars hunky Jean-Paul Belmondo as Arthur Lempereur, a wealthy dude that believes that life isn’t challenging, and this belief leads him to many bungled suicide attempts. The poor dude is so lost in his anomie that expresses his wish to die to his buddy Mr. Goh (Valéry Inkijinoff), who wishes to oblige his friend’s wishes by placing a hit on him that will take place in the next month or so. With news of his impending death, Arthur becomes revitalized yet nervous, constantly looking over his shoulder for his would be assassins. After he crosses paths with Aledandrine (Ursula Andress) and sees her do a striptease, he soon decides that he no longer wishes to die. Further hijinks ensue when Arthur finds out that Suzy (Maria Pacôme), the mother of his fiancée Alice (Valérie Lagrange), has also arranged for him to be killed. Oh, no! This movie will have you up to your ears in shirtlessness from Jean-Paul Belmondo in multiple scenes, including a hilariously sexy scene of the handsome fellow performing in drag.
