Don’t let the title fool you, Zig Zag (1970) has nothing to do with rolling joints and smoking weed. The thriller stars George Kennedy as Paul Cameron, an insurance executive who discovers that he has a brain tumor. With his time limited, Paul starts to stress over how his wife (Anne Jackson) will carry on financially without him. His current insurance policy doesn’t pay squat, so the dying dude concocts a plan that involves him confessing to a murder he didn’t commit, in an attempt to claim the reward money. But when Paul is sentenced to death by the court and passes out in the courtroom, he his rushed to the hospital, goes under the knife, and is cured of his ailment. He must now escape from prison and try to find the real killer to clear his name. Of course, since a good portion of the film takes place in prison, we get a gander at Kennedy’s keister as he strips down for headcount. We’d like to do hard time with Kennedy!
