Based on Peter Shaffer's play of the same name, previously turned into a 1984 Oscar-winning masterpiece, Amadeus is a 2026 miniseries expansion of this classic tale of rivalry and revenge! In this telling, it is Constanze Mozart (Gabrielle Creevy) and not a priest to whom Antonio Salieri (Paul Bettany) confesses his tale of jealousy and the murder of her deceased husband Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Will Sharpe). Mozart's life is recounted, in particular the time he spent in Vienna from his arrival in 1781 until his death there ten years later at 35, a penniless pauper thanks to Salieri's machinations. The great irony of this work is that all while posing as his friend and mentor, Salieri was harboring insane jealousy and anger with not just Mozart, but with god over what he sees as god's decision to bestow such sublime talent on such a vulgar little creature. No longer bound by a vow of chastity, the third episode brings Paul Bettany's Salieri into the arms of a lady of the evening, though he keeps his pants on for their encounter!
