Set six months after the events of the 2018 film of the same name, Blindspotting is one of that rare breed of television shows in the new millennium, the kind spun off from a successful film. Debuting in the summer of 2021 on Starz, the series follows Ashley (Jasmine Cephas Jones), the long-suffering partner of Miles (Rafael Casal) and father to his son, who is left in the lurch when Miles is sent to prison. With no other options and little recourse, Ashley and her pre-teen son Sean move in with Miles' mom Rainey (Helen Hunt) and Miles' half-sister Trish (Jaylen Barron) in hopes of not only getting back on her feet financially, but also having other folks around to rely on that aren't the extremely unreliable Miles. Much like the film on which it is based, the Oakland-set and filmed show is absolutely focused on race relations and the current state of affairs in the Bay area, while also being universal enough to appeal to anyone living far away from the west coast. Of course, the other main focus of the series is on how Miles is going to be able to maintain any sense of presence in his son's life if he is constantly in and out of prison! The show didn't get off to a very skinsational start, with the debut episode only giving us one little glimpse of series star Rafael Casal with his shirt off, showing off his fit and phenomenal physique! If they don't let us see some more skin from this hottie soon, that's going to be a real Blindspot in this show's field of vision!
