Biography

Alongside Charlie Chaplin and Harold Lloyd, Buster Keaton was one of the defining comedians and visionaries of the silent film era. In fact some have argued, in certain circles of cinema intellectuals, that Keaton was actually the best of the bunch, but that's more a matter of personal taste. Keaton was undeniably a genius and being raised, quite literally, on stage by his Vaudeville performing parents, he parlayed his talent for remaining completely stone faced while—often self-instigated—chaos happens around him!

Among his best and most beloved works are the astonishing Sherlock Jr. (1924), the ambitious The General (1926), and Steamboat Bill, Jr. (1927), the film featuring Keaton's most famous sight gag where the facade of a house falls on top of him, with only a small window allowing him to remain standing, sparing his life and putting him in the record books! Not as well known is his first feature for MGM, The Cameraman (1928), which features some shocking pre-Hays Code nudity from Buster, who loses his bathing suit and bares his buns underwater!
