The Stalin era of the Soviet Union was marked by pervasive idealism that eliminated the possibility of violent crime—at least in the eyes of the government. When a child serial killer is on the loose, Leo Demidov (Tom Hardy) insists on solving the mystery, he's demoted and exiled, left to seek out justic himself. The case becomes increasingly important when one of his friend's sons is the 44th child brutally murdered by the criminal.
Tom Hardy makes sleuthing look damn good, stripping off his shirt during a raunchy Russian romp with his wife. The government may have exiled him, but we'd let him hang out with us any day.
