I nearly spit my coffee out at my computer screen when I read the news yesterday that a brand new Disney Plus TV show is promising nudity. Promising nudity??? And not just any nudity, but male nudity. What in the world is Disney getting into? Whatever it is, it's all I want to talk about. It's the show Rivals and I am so excited to dive into this, so let's go.
This series is an adaptation of a novel called Rivals written by Dame Jilly Cooper. This is a raunchy one! The 1988 novel takes place in the fast-paced world of TV production with a distinct British spin.
It was an immediate hit at the time for depicting the entertainment workplace and its dubious relations. That sounds like Industry, but set in the world of TV! Disney announced this adaptation in 2022 and attached David Tennant and Danny Dyer as stars. And what sexy stars those two men are!
The plot follows a young man named Rupert Campbell-Black whose rivalry with Lord Baddingham affects the day-to-day goings on of a TV network. It is a fictional story, although people will likely make connections to real British TV producers and executives just as they did when Cooper's novel was originally released in 1988.
The show continued its production without a hitch. Written by a writer for EastEnders, the dramatic and witty series is set to premiere on Disney's streaming service on October 18 as an eight-part series. The writer Dominic Treadwell-Collins has told the press that Rivals will be true to the book in terms of its sex scenes and that the nudity will be gender balanced. He even said that there will ba "a willy for every part of tits". THANK YOU!
Dominic was open to The Times about the nudity in the show and plainly stated that there will be plenty to enjoy for audiences of all genders looking for nudity from all genders. "We’ve been equal opportunities in our nudity," Dominic said. I'm applauding this ally in my seat right now.
The series also stars comedic actress Katherine Parkinson who starred in The IT Crowd. I love that British sitcom, so I'm happy to see her return to the telly. Dominic said that she really wanted to do a sex scene. "She was like, “I really want to show my boobs. I’m in my mid-40s and they look good." He praised her work in that scene and beyond. But what about the men? Well, if she's showing her breasts...then they must be showing those aforementioned willies.
Beyond Dyer and Tennant, the series also stars former Skins heartthrob Luke Pasqualino, Aidan Turner, Oliver Chris, Alex Hassell, Milo Callaghan, and Rufus Jones. That's quite the roster of strapping British boys. Which of these lovely lads with drop trow and show us their royal jewels?
I can't wait to see who goes nude. It's a month away, so get excited by watching some sexy scenes from these stars.
