Film Independent's Spirit Awards exist to amplify and celebrate independent filmmakers. The group started in 1981 when Gregory Nava and a group of other writers, directors, and producers starts to meet regularly to share ideas. After a while, they founded their organization to encourage and support indie filmmaking. In the late 80s, they ran the Spirit Awards to give actual awards to these kinds of films and the rest is history. Now these independent awards are actually kind of mainstream in that these films are much more widely available and celebrated than they ever have been before. At the 2022 awards, Nick Offerman came onstage in a costume to honor the film Zola. Zola is about strippers, so Nick walked out onstage in red boots ala kink boots, fishnet stockings, and red pasties over his nipples as he asked for a stripper pole. This look at Nick will please your pole!
