Biography

With five Golden Globe nominations and two wins, the Hollywood Foreign Press loved George Segal as did all of us. After graduating from Columbia College in 1955, George served in the Korean War with a banjo on his knee. In fact, the brave babe played in Corporal Bruno’s Sad Sack Six band. Once he returned to the States, Segal studied at the Actors Studio with Lee Strasberg in NYC. From there, he performed on stage (Antony and Cleopatra, Gideon, Art); on film (Ship of Fools, The Hot Rock, California Split, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?); and on TV (The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, The Goldbergs, Just Shoot Me!). As a popular leading man, George starred in the rom-coms The Owl and the Pussycat (1970) with Barbra Streisand; A Touch of Class (1973) with Glenda Jackson; The Duchess and the Dirtwater Fox (1976) with Goldie Hawn; Fun with Dick and Jane (1977) with Jane Fonda; The Last Married Couple in America (1980) with Natalie Wood; and Flirting with Disaster (1996) with Mary Tyler Moore. Of course, we prefer the pairing of the skintastic actor and director Carl Reiner since their film Where’s Poppa? (1970) showcased George’s bare bum! At the risk of repeating himself, Segal flashed his ass again in the comedy Born to Win (1971). The R-rated flick features Robert De Niro, Karen Black, and George’s chest and drawers! Segal passed away in 2021, but he was born to win us over with his vibrant personality, onscreen charm, and amazing assets!
