The many actors who have portrayed Oak Park native, Nobel Prize-winning novelist and all-around macho man Ernest Hemingway range from Chris O’Donnell in In Love and War (1996), Kevin J. O’Connor in The Moderns (1988) and Stacy Keach in Hemingway (1988) to Albert Finney in Hemingway, the Hunter of Death (2001), Corey Stoll in Midnight in Paris (2011) and Adrian Sparks in Papa Hemingway in Cuba (2015). Yet Mr. Man’s fave is Clive Owens whose revealing role can be seen in HBO’s Hemingway & Gellhorn (2012). The romantic drama begins when Ernest (Owens) meets journalist Martha Gellhorn (Nicole Kidman) in a Key West bar in 1936. After bantering over their battle of wills (and battling with Hemingway’s trouser bulge), the two grow even closer when they cover the Spanish Civil War together the following year. By 1940, Hemingway divorces his wife (Molly Parker) to wed Martha. But the marriage won’t last due to his drunken womanizing and Martha’s dedication to her work. These are the relationship’s ins and outs. As for their ins and outs in bed, check out the couple going at it at the 58-minute mark. That’s when the writer of “A Farewell to Arms” (1929) says farewell to his robe. As such, we get to view Clive’s bare back and naked ass while he trusts into his woman in the sack. In other words, “The Sun Also Rises” (1926) author passionately dictates to Martha in the bedroom. Suffice it to say, the sun is not the only thing rising!
