Mary Queen of Scots (2018)

Tom Hardy played him in the BBC miniseries The Virgin Queen (2005) as did Jeremy Irons in the small screen saga Elizabeth I (2005). The same can be said of Daniel Massey and Joseph Fiennes in the respective biopics Mary, Queen of Scots (1971) and Elizabeth (1998). Of course, we’re referring to Queen Elizabeth I’s numero uno lover Robert Dudley, aka the Earl of Leicester. Given this history, kudos go to Taylor Swift’s ex-flame Joe Alwyn for stepping into the romantic role for Mary Queen of Scots (2018). Granted, he’s not the only pretty performer rocking a pair of tights in this period piece about the Queen of England (Margot Robbie) and her titular cousin (Saoirse Ronan). Based on John Guy’s biography “Queen of Scots: The True Life of Mary Stuart” (2004), the R rated flick includes depictions of Mathew Stewart, aka the Earl of Lennox (Brendan Coyle), the royal advisor William Cecil (Guy Pearce), the Scottish minister John Knox (David Tennant), the Earl of Moray (James McArdle), the ambassador to Scotland Lord Randolph (Adrian Lester), and Mary’s confidant David Rizzio (Ismael Cruz Córdova). The latter man was an Italian courtier yet is portrayed by a Puerto Rican actor who isn’t afraid to doff his duds on camera. Indeed, his butt can be seen when he’s caught in bed with Lord Darnley (Jack Lowden) by an angry queen who pours wine all over them to wake them up. No doubt, seeing their wet pecs is enough to arouse Mr. Man’s crown jewels!
