Remember when Samantha had her very own Mr. July fireman against a fire truck? And in a bed? That faceless hunk in 2000’s episode one, season three of Sex and the City, along with his tight, flexing, muscular, gorgeous, bare ass, was Michael Lombardi. His character’s official name was Ricky, but Mr. July seems to fit better, and although it was Michael’s first on-screen credit, we think he nailed it as well as he nailed Samantha. And, as it turns out, Michael was a real-life New York City firefighter, with the FDNY gear and everything. At the time, the Staten Island resident was 38 years old (looking good!), a 12-year veteran on the force, and a member of the elite Rescue 5 unit. No stranger to being ogled for his good looks, Michael was in the FDNY 1999 beefcake Firehouse Hunks calendar, and was in People magazine’s 1998 “Sexiest Men Alive” issue. And although he got permission to do the Sex and the City role in advance, his on-screen sexual exploits still caused quite a ruckus, and the big bosses with little minds ran him through the ringer, almost causing him to lose his job. As such, Michael had to cool it with the sexy appearances. A year later, his unit lost eleven men on September 11. During Michael’s recovery efforts, he developed a medical condition that caused him to retire as a firefighter. There is good news, though. Logo TV ranked the top 50 guest stars on SATC, and our boy Michael came in at #34. (The top spot went to Mr. Big, natch.)
