Petty thief-turned guitar god Steve Jones was saved from a life of crime when he became the founding member of the groundbreaking punk rock band the Sex Pistols. With his trademark perm-ish hair, hanky on his head, tight leather pants, and devil-may-care attitude, Jones wowed Pistols’ fans and curiosity seekers alike. The foul-mouthed, amphetamine-taking, riff-blazing bad boy thrilled groupies with his sexual energy and youthful desires for the carnal pleasures of life. After the Sex Pistols two-and-a-half year career came to a screeching halt on a San Francisco stage in January of 1978, Jones and Pistols’ drummer Paul Cook moved on to co-found the highly unsuccessful band The Professionals. But guitarist and drummer weren’t about to let go of their Sex Pistols fame and the two recorded a smattering of terrible tunes under the Pistols namesake—a band that was neutered without the presence and intelligence of their ex-singer Johnny Rotten. In an attempt to milk the Pistols’ good name a bit more, the –ex Pistols teamed up with filmmaker Julien Temple to appear in the music flick The Great Rock ‘n’ Roll Swindle (1980). If you’re not a fan of punk rock and odd films, the Swindle will drive you mad. But if you want to see Jonesy’s junk and ass, you’ll have to plow through the crappy content. It looks like this Pistol is packin’!
