Biography

Tatanka may mean “Male Buffalo” but there’s no confusing why we’re wild for this stunning Sioux tribe member. Born in South Dakota in 1985 and raised in Chinle, AZ on the Navajo Nation Indian Reservation, Tatanka Means was a competitive bull rider and boxer before following in the footsteps of his father, actor and activist Russell Means, by pursuing a career in both acting and stand-up comedy. He first played Crazy Horse in the miniseries Into The West in 2005, and has since been seen on television in the Comanche Moon (2008), Banshee (2014), The Son (2017), and I Know This Much Is True (2020). On the big screen, Tatanka has appeared in Tiger Eyes with his dad in 2012, plus A Million Ways To Die In The West (2014), Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015), Once Upon A River (2019) and Canyon Del Muerto (2022). He’s also created a clothing line to help create cultural awareness for Native business people, which got him featured in a calendar full of hunky Native American males in 2006. But we prefer a more unclothed Tatanka, showing skin in the role of Sam on the FX series Reservation Dogs. Watching the manly and multitalented Means will have you pitching a tepee!
