Today's Throwback Thursday takes us to the nude Hall-of-Famer Malcolm McDowell's earliest work: if... Oh, if only we could travel to the set of this 1960s flick to see him in the flesh, but since we can't do that physically, just join us in today's #TBT.
if... is one of the most well-known British mod movies in the late 1960s. It's an allegory that takes place at a private school in England where students decide to revolt. Malcolm McDowell plays Mick Travis who leads the revolt and pits student-against-student in this fight for teen freedom.
Malcolm joins other young lads in the shower to show his hot naked body alongside many other nude dudes. Since Malcolm is our leading man, our eyes are trained on his wet derriere. It's exciting to see this young man so naked! Other guys in this movie made their nude debuts AND their acting debuts like David Wood, Hugh Thomas, and Richard Warwick who all went on to become staples in British cinema. This was one of their first films and they boldly showed butt in it. Kudos to these young British hunks. Hell, this was even Malcolm's first film!
There is a lot of great trivia surrounding the nudity in this film. British nobility called the film an "insult to the nation" and "perverted". This movie featured Britain's first-ever prolonged scene featuring female full frontal that passed the censors. The male nudity was even a lot to handle. Malcolm nakedly wrestles this naked girl in one scene thathad the old Brits aghast.This movie and many others are talked about in the new documentary Skin: A History of Nudity in the Movies.
