To the Lake (2019) is a Netflix original series that is filled with drama, suspense, mystery, thrills, and chills in this science-fiction project that defies logic and genre. This Russian series takes place in Moscow where a new and unknown virus destroys the people in the city. Nothing "normal" is left. People are dead or infected and there is no longer electricity or any of the things we admire about the modern world. The uninfected people left alive are struggling for basic survival needs like food and warmth. Sergey is our main character who lives outside of the city where the virus has not has hit. He, his lover, and her son live there peacefully until Sergey's ex-wife asks him for help. He goes to save her and their son, but she hates him furiously. She is not happy to put the past behind them despite the danger that they are in. He helps her escape to a deserted island on a lake where they hide out as the virus grows. Serious 2020 vibes, right?
