After Dark, My Sweet (1990)

Following in the shadowy footsteps of the neo-noir flicks The Long Goodbye (1973), Chinatown (1974), Farewell, My Lovely (1975), Blood Simple (1984) and Blue Velvet (1986) is After Dark, My Sweet (1990). It’s just one of the many erotic thrillers to grace the big screen during the 1990s. Based on Jim Thompson’s same-named novel of 1955, this R-rated pic centers around drifter Kevin “Kid” Collins (Jason Patric). He’s an ex-boxer who killed a man in the ring, and has been in mental institutions on and off ever since. Although two beers short of a six-pack, Kid is hired by widow Fay Anderson (Rachel Ward) to maintain her neglected Palm Springs estate. But all too soon, she and her seedy friend Uncle Bud (Bruce Dern) draw Kid into a kidnapping plot. What could possibly go wrong when the three don’t trust each other? Who cares so long as Jason shows his wares! During a sex scene with Ms. Ward, Mr. Patric reveals his rump during a hump at the 01:19:24 mark. As you can see, his bedroom thrusts put the motion into this motion picture. If that’s not hot enough, Jason steams up the screen when he flashes his chest, balls and shaft! Needless to say, the naked leading man is a real knockout. Even though the movie includes this sexy exchange and gained praise from the critics, it wound up being a box office flop. Nevertheless, Mr. Man gives it two thumbs — and another part of his anatomy — way up!
