Belly (1998) is a crime drama marking the first feature film from music video directing icon Hype Williams, which helps explain why it stars rap legends NasDMX and Method Man. The film follows Tommy "Buns" Brown (DMX) and his buddy Sincere (Nas), two gangsters who make their living selling drugs and robbing nightclubs around New York City. When they hear about a new form of heroin hitting the scene, they decide to expand their business by shipping their product to Omaha, Nebraska. Inevitably, they run into issues with both the local drug dealers who don't appreciate the competition and the Feds who don't appreciate them crossing state lines to sell drugs. After a bunch of close calls and newly made enemies, Sincere wants to abandon the drug trade and move to Africa with his wife (TLC's T-Boz Watkins), but Tommy gets an offer from the Feds to kill Nation of Islam leader (Benjamin Chavis). Obviously, this puts our pair on rather different paths, but will the longtime partners in crime screw each other over or help each other out? Lots of critics thought the film was too much like a pro-crime music video without any real substance behind it, but Belly was nominated for Best Cinematography at the Independent Spirit Awards in 1999. Hype mostly went back to making music videos, which is a shame because Mr. Man was pretty hyped up to see all the skin in this one. "Illmatic" mastermind Nas gets shirtless 10 minutes into the film to hold a little baby. Can you imagine him holding you against his body like that? I know I can... Meanwhile, the rugged rapper with the long rap sheet, DMX shows off that chiseled chest and tight tush at 11:31 when he bangs a lucky lady. Great Buns! X gon give it to ya, indeed! The juicy Jay Black gives us a flash of that perfect peen at 18 minutes as he gets strip-searched, and then the luscious Louie Rankin gets sexy and shirtless in the backseat of a car at 31 minutes! You can fill your Belly with that good dark meat watching Hype Williams' directorial debut!
