Billionaire Boys Club (2018)

You can’t put a price on good entertainment unless you’re referring to the television shows Billions (2016-2023), The Billion Dollar Code (2021) and Billion Dollar Bluff (2024) or the movies Billion Dollar Brain (1967), Mr. Billion (1977), One in a Billion (2016), 1 Billion Orgasms (2018), and Billion (2019). Of course, we’d be remiss not to mention Billionaire Boys Club (2018). Not to be confused with the TV drama Billionaire Boys Club (1987) starring Judd Nelson, this R-rated remake features Ansel Elgort, Taron Egerton, Emma Roberts, Kevin Spacey, Rosanna Arquette, Jeremy Irvine, Bokeem Woodbine, and Judd Nelson (now playing the father of the character he portrayed in the first version). Under the direction of James Cox (who co-wrote the screenplay with Captain Mauzner), this thriller is based on a real life Ponzi scam perpetrated by a bunch of rich preppies during the 1980s. Alas, their dubious deals end in death. Along the way, the movie includes a portrayal of artist Andy Warhol (Cary Elwes) and a few views of Mr. Elgort’s bare chest! Had the actor flashed more of his flesh this film might have charmed critics and audiences. Unfortunately, the cinematic flop was dissed by the former and ignored by the latter. It’s ironic that a movie called Billionaire Boys Club only made $2.7 million against its $15 million budget. Perhaps that’s why the pic picked up a Golden Raspberry Award for bombing at the box office. Nevertheless, Mr. Man is willing to give his Golden Banana to the handsome cast!
