Biography

Fans of a certain age will remember Clarence Williams III as Linc Hayes from the popular cop show The Mod Squad (1968-1973).  But, if you’re a true entertainment aficionado, you’ll have followed Clarence’s legacy through films (52 Pick-Up, I’m Gonna Git You Sucka, Reindeer Games) and TV (Twin Peaks, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Miami Vice, Everybody Hates Chris). After serving the country as a paratrooper, the promising performer kicked off his acting career on Broadway in The Long Dream (1960). Years later, he scored a Tony nomination for his work in Slow Dance on the Killing Ground. By 1966, Clarence was an artist-in-residence at Brandeis University. But with his strong jawline and built bod, the ebony stunner was meant to be on camera. As such, he was cast in the comedies Half Baked (1998) starring Dave Chappelle and Life (1999) with Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence. Williams thrilled audiences alongside Madeleine Stowe in the thrillers The General’s Daughter (1999) and Impostor (2002). He also nabbed a recurring role on the Hallmark Channel’s Mystery Woman film series (2003-2007). In addition to holding his own against Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe in Ridley Scott’s crime drama American Gangster (2007), Williams portrayed Prince’s father in the musical Purple Rain (1984). Talk about having a big, wide… range! Of course, we’re partial to his part in Against the Wall (1994). That’s because John Frankenheimer’s R-rated drama features Kyle MacLachlan, Samuel L. Jackson, and the late Clarence Williams in his topless brilliance. RIP stands for ripped!
