Last week Matt Bomer accepted the Hollywood Reporter Trailblazer Award at SCAD TV Fest in Atlanta. Bailey and Lever chat and Bailey asks about how Bomer has been handling the death of his son. The new boy toy has no idea what he's talking about, but he pretends he does. Later Lever goes through Bomer's things to see if he can find a picture of the son. He does, he looks at it, then he forgets to put it away. This is crucial to know because the picture being left out is what kills the mood in the drug-fueled threesome.
When the men are all finally touching and kissing and sucking and fucking each other...Bomer's character eyes the picture left out on a bedside table. That is when all hell breaks loose. Totally nude (and still under the influence), he fights Lever and then breaks down by crawling into a (naked) ball on his side and crying. So he went from fucking to fighting to sobbing all in the span of a few short minutes. How did he handle doing all of that?!
The actor said in an interview onstage that there were no breaks in this scene. That means that it went straight from sex to tears in one take. Now that's some serious acting! Imagine going from lust-filled sex to anger to grief just like that. Only Bomer can give a boner and then bring us to tears all in one take.
The 46-year-old actor was as charming as ever when he spoke about this scene and the hard work that he puts into playing gay characters that continue to shine a light on LGBTQ+ representation. That is exactly why he was honored for being such a trailblazer.
