Biography

Kelvin Harrison Jr. is a Louisiana lad from The Big Easy who is super easy on the eyes. Hailing from musician parents, he learned to play the piano and the trumpet, and originally set out for a career in music, attending Loyola University New Orleans to study studio engineering. Along the way, he changed his creative endeavors, and transferred to the University of New Orleans for film classes, with the intent to write and direct. In 2013, he made his acting debut in small roles as Victim 2 in 12 Years a Slave, and Salamander in Ender’s Game, both of which filmed in part in his native Louisiana. While on Ender’s Game, he met star Viola Davis, who encouraged him to take acting seriously, and he listened. Since then, he’s earned accolades, and his film roles have been getting bigger and better. He played Winslow in the 2016 Roots mini-series, and made a big splash as Travis in It Comes at Night (2017) with Joel Edgerton. He grabbed the regular role of Toule Dacey in the Crackle series StartUp from 2016-2017, and earned accolades for his role as Luce Edgar in the indie film Luce (2019) with Naomi Watts. As Tyler in Waves (2019), his backside is proven to look just as good as his front side; we get to see everything but his personal package courtesy of a shower scene. Kelvin has also played Teddy Green in the Epix series Godfather of Harlem in 2019, and Fred Hampton in Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020) on Netflix. His star has climbed even higher as Christian in Cyrano (2021) with Peter Dinklage, B.B. King in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis (2022) with Tom Hanks, Joseph Bologne in Chevalier(2023) with Lucy Boynton, and as the voice of Scar in the prequel to the Lion King (2025), directed by Oscar winner Barry Jenkins.
