Hailing from Pittsburgh, PA, Lamman Rucker has been acting ever since the 4th grade. In his early adult years, he played college and semi-pro basketball before returning to his true passion for acting, making his on-screen debut as a flight agent in one 1998 episode of The Young and the Restless when he was 27 years old. From there, he was cast as Jimmy Ruffin in the mini-series The Temptations (1998). A few years later, he returned to the little screen to play T. Marshal Travers in As the World Turns from 2002-2003, then made his first feature film, Making Revolution (2003), which was also Mahershala Ali’s first film (just a fun fact Mr. Man is throwing in as a bonus). Somewhere along the way, Lamman hooked up with Tyler Perry, and in addition to popping up on House of Payne in 2007, he took on roles as Troy in in Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married?(2007) and Why Did I Get Married Too? (2010), as well as Will in Meet the Browns (2008) the movie, and the follow-up series from 2009-2011. He also got to show off his sporting skills as Trey in the movie Ball Don’t Lie(2008) with Ludacris. Where you may know him best, though, is starring as Jacob Greenleaf in the OWN series Greenleaf, a role he played for 60 episodes (some of them barely dressed) from 2016-2020. Lamman stuck with OWN to play Vince in Queen Sugar in 2022, and switched to BET for the mini-series The Black Hamptons (2022).
