Lasa y Zabala (2014)

Based on true events, the gritty thriller Lasa y Zabala (2014) tells the story of Joxean Lasa (Jon Anza) and Joxi Zabala (Cristian Mercha), Basque refugees that go missing in Bayonne, a small city in southwestern France, in 1983. Their disappearance is punctuated by a series of attacks by GAL, an “anti-terrorist group”. The family of the missing men lawyer-up with young attorney, Iñigo (Unax Ugalde), in an attempt to get to the bottom of their disappearance. But Iñigo, and most everyone else, knows that there’s really no chance in locating the guys.

Fast-forward twelve-years later, armed with new information, police officer Jesús García (Sergi Calleja) reopens the case of two unidentified bodies that had been unearthed a decade before, slain and haphazardly buried in quicklime. The eagle-eyed cop’s intuitions are on target, and the bodies are indeed that of Joxean and Lasa. With the help of his trusty assistant, Fede (Iñigo Gastesi), Jesús figures out the culprit responsible for the deaths of Joxean and Lasa. As we get a look at the violent treatment that the missing fellows went through before their demise, we get a look at full nudity from Cristian Mercha and a peen shot from Jon Anza. Wish the nudity came during some less harrowing scenes.
