He was trapped in a room naked for fifteen months, only earning food and clothing by filling out magazine sweepstakes. His every move was broadcast live to Japanese audiences. These experiences are captured in the 2023 documentary The Contestant, which began streaming on Hulu in 2023. Nasubi recalls seeing people at the film's screening crying, and it's this connection with modern audiences that has helped Nasubi to address his past trauma. Sexy, right? Nasubi means eggplant in Japanese, and Tomoaki received this nickname thanks to his uniquely long face.
