Tall, dark, brooding, and absolutely stunningly handsome, Robert Mitchum was one of Hollywood's bad boys during an era in which that actually meant something. The hunky leading man from Bridgeport, CT found himself on the wrong side of the law early and often in his life, once being sentenced to a chain gang when he was only 14. He joined his sister in California at the age of 19, hoping to make a name for himself in the industry, which is exactly what he did not long after! When the film noir movement of the 1940s began in earnest, Mitchum became a household name playing either the cruelest of villains or the most dubious of antiheroes, carving out a niche that helped him become one of the most famous men in the industry. He also made a ton of westerns, once famously quipping that as an actor he had "two modes: With horse and Without." His two most enduring roles came playing villains, first as the murderous "preacher" Harry Powell in Charles Laughton's masterpiece The Night of the Hunter (1955). Seven years later, he landed the role he'd be remembered for as career criminal Max Cady opposite Gregory Peck in the original Cape Fear (1962). With most of Mitchum's career coming during the days of the restrictive Hays Code, he never went nude on film, but a co-starring role alongside John Wayne in the Howard Hawks western El Dorado (1966) brought us his sexiest on-screen appearance! An hour and forty-one minutes in, Mitchum appears nude in a tiny washtub, getting all bashful when a woman comes in, though only she gets to see the parts of Mitchum within the washtub! Mitchum left us in 1997, just a month shy of his 80th birthday, but we couldn't be happier for all the sexy memories he left behind!
