Society of the Snow (2023)

The 1972 plane crash in the Andes that stranded several Uruguayan rugby players on a mountain for several weeks has been brought to the screen several times, most famously with movie stars like Ethan Hawke in the American film Alive (1993). For his film Society of the Snow (2023), director J.A. Bayona takes a cast of mostly unknown Uruguayan and Argentinian actors and tells the story again with the same horrifying immediacy he brought to his previous film The Impossible (2012). Adapting Pablo Vierci's novel of the same name, Society of the Snow brings this terrifying true story to visceral life, based on the testimonies and recollections of the event's sixteen survivors. While the film's stars like Simon Hempe and Federico Formento both have sexy scenes, most of the nudity is done by uncredited actors, with a group shower scene that opens the movie featuring lots of full frontal!
